Gerontology Internship in Africa

Work description Summary

Art in Tanzania supports and develops services for the growing older adults in the African village.

Details

Older people in Tanzania are culturally highly appreciated, and they will stay with their families rather than live alone. The Gerontology Program focuses on providing better medical care, nutrition and living conditions that have resulted in people living longer.

Nevertheless, Tanzania lacks social services for the elderly population, and there is an urgent need to provide essential supportive services, especially for low-income families.

The gerontology intern will perform tasks as follows.

Advocating public health topics such as common elder society illnesses, nutrition, etc

Assisting in conducting health checks when needed

Physiotherapy type of training and exercises

Assisting in organizing the typical daily tasks

Creating daily hobbies and other mentally empowering activities

Other functions that the student is capable of bringing into the placement task

We look to be innovative. Interns get the ideas that we look for to strengthen the fieldwork. We encourage innovation and self-led creativity in the professional program approach.

The internship outcome is to learn to use your studies and experience to work in developing country conditions.

Work hours are 6-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Your program can be from 2 weeks to 12 months. Commonly, an internship is 2-3 months long. The placement starting dates are flexible.

Academic-level team leaders are daily supervising your internship. We monitor your work with a weekly plan and report system to ensure you proceed well with your tasks.

We can take students in all year round as all programs are ongoing. Your placement is tailored to your background, experience, and interests to empower our daily work with the communities.

You can also conduct the thesis, related tasks, and internship placement.

The typical morning tasks include practical fieldwork in the schools and communities, and afternoons are for planning, reporting, and social media visibility functions.

The Benefits and Perks are as follows:

Accommodation with breakfast and dinner is EUR 175 per week and is a personal expense. However, the cost drops to EUR 125 weekly after the first 13 weeks.

Airport transfers from and to EUR 120 are a personal expense

A charity student or volunteer VISA is USD 50 and is a personal expense. Less than a 1-year multiple-entry charity VISA is USD 250.

We pay a USD 100 per month stipend to you. It is small but 2x Tanzania's national minimum wage. The minimum participation time is four weeks for the assistance.

Flights are a personal expense.

Local program transport in Tanzania is a personal expense but small if needed.

You and your visiting friends can enjoy low-cost, sustainable tours and safaris.

We need your tentative arrival and departure to book you in and open your account.
