Gerontology Internship in Tanzania

Työtehtävän kuvaus Details

Art in Tanzania has been operating since 1996. Our community placements attract about 250 participants annually. Our vision is to give students hands-on experience working in developing African communities. In addition to your studies, you will have an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience of African culture and life, as well as fantastic nature and wildlife.

Older people in Tanzania are culturally highly appreciated, and they will stay with their families rather than live alone. However, better medical care, nutrition, and living conditions have made people live longer.

Nevertheless, Tanzania lacks social services for the elderly, and essential supportive services, especially for low-income families, are urgently needed.

The gerontology intern will perform tasks as follows.

Advocating public health topics such as common elder society illnesses, nutrition, etc

Assisting in conducting health checks when needed

Physiotherapy type of training and exercises

Assisting in organising the typical daily tasks

Creating daily hobbies and other mentally empowering activities

Other tasks that the student is capable of bringing into the placement task

Work hours are 6-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

The program is ongoing, so the start dates are adjustable. Your placement is tailored to your background, experience, and interests to empower our daily work with the communities.

Daily tasks include practical fieldwork, planning, reporting, and visibility work.

The start and end dates are flexible as all programs are ongoing, many since 1996.

You and your visiting friends can enjoy low-cost, sustainable safaris and tours.

We commonly have 15-40 students from different parts of the world, from over 400 universities we cooperate with, and representing a variety of professions.

The Benefits and Perks are as follows:

Accommodation and meals are personal expenses. For 1-13 weeks, EUR 175 per week covers accommodation with breakfast and dinner, the student compound facilities, and professional tutoring. From week 14 onwards, the cost is EUR 125 per week.

Airport transfer is EUR 60 one way, which is a personal expense.

A Charity VISA for immigration of USD 50 is a personal expense. For less than 12 months, a multiple entry visa is USD 250.

We pay interns a USD 50 monthly stipend, which is small but 2x Tanzania's national minimum wage.

Flights are a personal expense.

Local transport, if any, is a personal expense.
