Norsepower: Mechanical Designer (composite structures)

Työtehtävän kuvaus Employment type: Fulltime, permanent
Location: Helsinki
Application DL: 12.6.

Norsepower is bringing sails back to shipping – and saving the planet at the same time. We are now looking for an experienced Mechanical Designer in Helsinki.

Norsepower Rotor Sail™ harnesses the wind to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions of ships. It is the first commercially available mechanical sail for large vessels. It has a proven track record of successful operation since 2014. Norsepower’s project services cover all phases from sales to project delivery and operational support. Each project is planned according to the client’s needs and preferences.

In this role, you will be designing the Norsepower Rotor Sail™ product, focusing on composites and steel parts. You play an active role in product development projects. You will be part of the whole design cycle, starting from sketch, to manufacturing drawings, helping with the supplier choices, and instructing with manufacturing and installation. After those, you will validate the design in real world by testing and following its performance in a real solution. In addition, you will prepare documentation such as instructions and help salespersons with issues related to mechanics. As a dynamic and growing company, Norsepower doesn’t have processes carved to stone, so you have a great opportunity to affect your role.

To succeed in this position, Norsepower hopes you have a couple of years of experience in mechanical design using 3D modeling. Composite structures are a central part of your work, so you should have an interest to become an expert in the field. We do not expect you to know everything, as you will receive support from the team and an external consultant. You work closely with different stakeholders, so we assume you have good communication skills. We hope that you have a proactive approach and a can-do attitude. It is good if you are always eager to learn new things, develop yourself, and if you enjoy working in a fast-growing company. Above all, Norsepower values a hands-on attitude and readiness to travel around the world! Norsepower’s office is in Ruoholahti, and we work in a flexible hybrid model. We expect you to work in the office a few times a week.

Requirements:
- Appropriate technical degree, BSc/MSc
- At least a couple of years of experience in mechanical design using 3D Cad systems
- Willingness to travel (about 40 - 50 days per year)
- Be fully proficient in English

Bonus skills:
- Experience in lightweight structures, composites, etc.
- Experience from a marine sector
- Experience in strength calculation

We offer you:
- Challenging but meaningful work in the evolving cleantech industry
- A chance to help the planet by reducing the emissions of shipping
- The benefits of a growing business; you get to grow while the business grows
- Full support of a highly motivated team
- Flexible working conditions
- Good employment benefits such as lunch and telephone and the opportunity to participate in the stock option program
