Gerontology Internship in Africa

Work description Summary

Art in Tanzania supports and develops services for the growing older adults in the African village.

Details

Older people in Tanzania are culturally highly appreciated, and they will stay with their families rather than live alone. However, better medical care, nutrition and living conditions have resulted in people living longer.

Nevertheless, Tanzania lacks social services for the elderly population, and there is an urgent need to provide essential supportive services, especially for low-income families.

The gerontology intern will perform tasks as follows.

Advocating public health topics such as common elder society illnesses, nutrition etc

Assisting in conducting health checks when needed

Physiotherapy type of training and exercises

Assisting in organizing the typical daily tasks

Creating daily hobbies and other mentally empowering activities

Other tasks that the student is capable of bringing into the placement task

We look to be innovative. Interns get the ideas that we look for to strengthen the fieldwork. We encourage innovation and self-led creativity in the professional program approach.

Academic-level team leaders are daily supervising your internship. In addition, we monitor your work with a weekly plan and report system to secure you proceed well in your study program.

The internship outcome is learning to use and get experience to implement your education in developing country conditions with limited capacity. Also, to better understand the opportunities in a fast-growing economy.

Work hours are 6-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Your program can be from 2 weeks up to 12 months.

The program is ongoing, and we can adjust your start dates. We accept the applications of all students and alums. Your placement is tailored to your background, experience, and interests to empower our daily work with the communities.

We provide 2x the local minimum wage of USD 100 per month for paid internships, payable when you stay a minimum of 4 weeks.

The start and end dates are flexible and accommodate other travel arrangements in Tanzania.

The International flights, student permits, accommodation, and meals are personal costs.

You and your visiting friends can enjoy sustainable tourism, safaris, and local tour options at a low cost.

We need your tentative arrival and departure to book you in and open your account.

The Benefits and Perks are as follows:

Accommodation and meals are personal expenses.

Airport transfers from and to are USD 120 is a personal expense.

A Charity VISA for immigration of USD 50 is a personal expense. A 3-6 months charity VISA is USD 250, and 12 months one is USD 500.

We pay a USD 100 per month stipend to you. It is small but 2x Tanzania's national minimum wage. The minimum participation time is four weeks for the grant.
